Most rolling bearings should be lubricated more often to ensure a longer service life. Lubrication reduces contact between the rolling and sliding surfaces. Consequently, wear is reduced. Lubrication can be physical or chemical.
The physically acting lubricant forms a lubricating film on the rolling parts. This prevents contact. In contrast, the chemical lubricant hardly forms a lubricating film. This is where tribochemical reaction layers form.
