Drawn Cup Roller Clutches are special clutches consisting of thin-walled, chipless outer rings with clamping ramps, plastic cages, pressure springs and needle rollers. Due to their low weight and the resulting low torque of inertia of the clamping elements, drawn cup roller clutches allow high indexing frequencies.

Drawn cup roller clutches are used in applications requiring one-sided torque transmission and free rotation in the opposite direction, such as machine tools, printing and textile machines.

Between the outer and inner rings are cages or rollers that are radial tensioned by spring load. When rotations are made in the required direction, the cages or rollers are unlocked and allow frictionless rotational movement. For rotations in the opposite direction, instead, the cages or rollers engage and block rotation to prevent reverse motion.

Drawn cup roller clutches without bearing support are characterized by their compact and lightweight design and transmit torques only. Drawn cup roller clutches with bearings, meanwhile, can additionally absorb radial forces and offer increased operational reliability. Depending on the requirements, robust steel springs or plastic springs can be used in the drawn cup roller clutches.
